As a Doctor of Acupuncture or Master of Acupuncture (DAc or MAc) student, you can choose to train in a specialized field of study such as Sports Medicine, Medical Qigong, or Tuina Massage to enhance and distinguish your TCM practice.
Learn how to assist patients to increase their physical stamina and flexibility, reduce stress, and obtain peak athletic performance. The Sports Medicine program emphasizes the use of orthopedic acupuncture to alleviate joint pain, heal muscle strains and sprains, and prevent injury. The benefits of stress reduction and increased energy provided by orthopedic acupuncture help athletes achieve top performance and alleviate tension prior to competition.
Medical Qigong was developed to treat patients with a variety of conditions including internal organ disease, immune system dysfunction, and cancer. You will learn the basic theories and practical applications of Medical Qigong to treat patients. You will prescribe Medical Qigong exercises and meditations to complement your patient’s treatment and enhance healing.
Tuina massage practitioners work with the energy channels and points of the body using the same principles as acupuncture, except hands are used rather than needles. Utilizing a variety of hand techniques, and practiced on a clothed body, Tuina massage is used to release stagnant energy flow and tension, enhance the healing process and aide in the recovery of damaged tissues. This treatment modality is highly beneficial for young children and patients who have concerns about the use of acupuncture needles.
